Marcus Thomas
24-year old point guard Marcus Thomas (191-PG-95) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Halcones and receives a Interperformances Liga MB Player of the Week award for round 13.
He had a double-double of 50 points and 11 rebounds, while his team edged out Santa Ana (#9, 2-8) 114-112. Halcones maintains the 8th position in Salvadorean Liga MB. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked such low. They already lost 8 games and recorded just three victories. In the team's last game Thomas had a remarkable 68.4% from 2-point range and got four three-pointers out of 9 attempts. He turned to be Halcones' top player in his first season with the team. Rosemont College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Thomas is league's best scorer averaging so far 34.7ppg. Thomas is in league's top in assists (2nd best: 6.2apg) and averages solid 2.7spg and 58.6% FGP.
Second best performed player last round was Lee Vazquez (173-PG-91) of Santa Ana. He is Puerto Rican guard in his 2nd season at Santa Ana. In the last game Vazquez recorded impressive double-double of 52 points and 12 rebounds. Bad luck as Santa Ana was edged by slightly higher-ranked Halcones (#8, 3-8) 114-112. Santa Ana are still at the very bottom. 8 lost games are too many comparing to just two victories Santa Ana managed to get this year. Vazquez is well-known at Santa Ana and he already established his position as one of the team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 28.6ppg (#3). His other stats are also decent: 7.6rpg and 5.6apg.
Third place about best performers goes to guard Osmel Oliva (178-PG-87) of Aguila (#6). Oliva got into 30-points club by scoring 32 points in the last round. He went also for five rebounds and ten assists. He was a key player of Aguila, leading his team to a 88-64 easy win against the higher-ranked San Salvador (#2, 7-3). Aguila needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 5 victories and 5 lost games. Oliva has a great season in El Salvador. After 10 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 23.0ppg (9th best) and assists with 5.0apg (7th best). He also has 3.1spg and and 3PT: 40.6%.
